In love with an Alien

Out in the fields
Where the farmers grow bread
When called for the meals
They took for the shed
Then dark came to fall
And silence was all
A beauty shone bright
Surrounded by light

c’mon now;

I fell in love with an Alien
Fell in love with her eyes
Fell in love with an Alien
I’m telling you no disguise
I’m in love with an Alien
I’m in love with her eyes
I’m in love with an Alien
I’m telling you no disguise

She came looking out babe
for a Romeo ‘caus
She ain’t looking out babe
for a homeboy
I fell in love with an Alien
I’m in love with her eyes
I’m in love with an Alien
I’m telling you no disguise

The moon went to bed
The sun growing red
A scarecrow appeared
And chased her in fear
She send me her love
Her love to me
And then we did grow
A big family

c’mon now;

Fell in love with an Alien
Fell in love with her eyes
Fell in love with an Alien
I’m telling you no disguise
I’m in love with an Alien
I’m in love with her eyes
I’m in love with an Alien
I’m telling you no disguise

She came looking out babe
for a Romeo ‘caus
She ain’t looking out babe
for a homeboy

Fell in love with an Alien
Fell in love with her eyes
Fell in love with an Alien
I’m telling you no disguise
I’m in love with an Alien
I’m in love with her eyes
I’m in love with an Alien
I’m telling you no disguise

Halloween

Halloween

ressed as a vampire, Britain’s Eve Lung, from Birmingham, shows her teeth during the second World Dracula Congress in Poiana Brasov, southern Transylvania in this May 25, 2000 file photo. London’s Vampyres may be prowling for new recruits to partake in wild parties, trips to Transylvania and bat spotting nights, but they stress coffin-dwelling, blood drinkers are not on their hit list. Vampyres are prowling for new recruits in London as Halloween approaches to partake in wild parties, trips to Transylvania and bat spotting nights — but coffin-dwelling, blood drinkers need not apply. With a penchant for custom-made fangs, striking make-up and gothic clothes, members of the London Vampyre Group (LVG) say it’s their fascination with the romantic notion of vampires, rather than any darker intent, that draws them together. “People who think they’re un-dead, hundreds of years old, or that you have to drink blood if you’re interested in the dark side of things, we can put them right on that,” LVG’s Mick Smith, 57, told Reuters in an interview in a London pub. “The drinking of blood is a taboo. It’s a point of view that we don’t tend to represent, but we think it is something that should be articulated,” said Smith, wearing a somber black suit. They may be conservatively attired lawyers or computer programmers by day, but Vampyres are transformed by flamboyant clothes after dark for the Dance of the Damned Vampire Ball and Requiem of the Resurrected parties with gothic belly dancing. The Halloween Goth Ball in the northern English town of Whitby, where Bram Stoker was inspired to write “Dracula,” is a major calendar fixture. Trips are planned to the Czech Republic’s gothic castles and ossuaries, and to New Orleans, setting for Anne Rice’s “Interview with the Vampire.” “I’d always been fascinated by vampires, they are often portrayed as powerful and beautiful. It’s the romanticism of it all,” said Rebecca Summers, 35, social secretary of LVG which was formed about 12 years ago, a splinter group from parent organization The Dracula Society. “It gets you out of that mundane world. And if you can live forever and remain beautiful then most people would want to do that,” said Summers, who works as a business consultant. With flowing black hair, red lips and a range of corsets, bustles and PVC outfits in her wardrobe, she says her work colleagues are unperturbed by her fixations with vampires and vampire myths which go back thousands of years and occur in almost every culture around the world. But persuading her husband to ditch his “Coldplay” CD collection and have fangs fitted is a bigger challenge, said Summers, who carries her own set of sharp teeth in her handbag. Few LVG members believe that the blood-sucking maniacs portrayed in Hollywood horror movies are roaming London’s streets, wearing black capes and sucking blood from humans and animals to maintain immortality. But some do believe in vampire-like personalities. “There are people who believe in psychic vampires, that there are people who act as vampires, are very predatory, they take energy from other people,” said Summers. “You do get the odd strange people who believe they need to drink blood to survive. I’ve only had email dealings with them.” LVG is keen to project vampire fans in a positive light after coming under scrutiny several years ago when a German woman, convicted with her partner of a satanic murder, said she became a vampire at so-called “bite parties” in London. “In one sense, we have a positive social function — rectifying bad ideas,” said Smith, who edits LVG’s Chronicles magazine, with articles on vampires in literature, coffin-shaped sleeping bags and the “Vindicator” agony aunt advice. “For me the most horrific things that happen in the world are on the news every day, not what you see in a horror film.”

Entanglement

Entanglement

URE ENTANGLEMENT: A key ingredient in schemes for ultra-powerful quantum computers is entanglement, the strange link that allows two or more particles to share the same fuzzy quantum state. Entanglement would mingle together many quantum bits of information, each one stored in a single atom or other particle, allowing a quantum computer to break currently uncrackable encryption protocols, for example. A finicky entangled state can degrade, but researchers know a way to purify it. In this week’s Nature a group reports the first purification of entangled atoms. Using ultraviolet laser pulses the researchers separately entangled two pairs of beryllium ions, and then entangled one ion from each pair. By measuring the quantum state of one of the original pairs the group could thereby purify the entanglement of the second.

This is a brief review of the great expanse and purpose of the Universe. In August of 2006 the International Astronomical Union determined to remove Pluto from the list of planets in our solar system. This video was made before this decision and therefore Pluto is retained in order to illustrate the size of our solar system. The Solar System, is the Sun and everything that orbits the Sun, including the nine planets and their satellites; the asteroids and comets; and interplanetary dust and gas. The term may also refer to a group of celestial bodies orbiting another star (see Extrasolar Planets). In this article, solar system refers to the system that includes Earth and the Sun. The dimensions of the solar system are specified in terms of the mean distance from Earth to the Sun, called the astronomical unit (AU). One AU is 150 million km (about 93 million mi). The most distant known planet, Pluto, orbits about 39 AU from the Sun. Estimates for the boundary where the Sun’s magnetic field ends and interstellar space begins called the heliopause range from 86 to 100 AU. The most distant known planetoid orbiting the Sun is Sedna, whose discovery was reported in March 2004. A planetoid is an object that is too small to be a planet. At the farthest point in its orbit, Sedna is about 900 AU from the Sun. Comets known as long-period comets, however, achieve the greatest distance from the Sun; they have highly eccentric orbits ranging out to 50,000 AU or more. The solar system was the only planetary system known to exist around a star similar to the Sun until 1995, when astronomers discovered a planet about 0.6 times the mass of Jupiter orbiting the star 51 Pegasi. Jupiter is the most massive planet in our solar system. Soon after, astronomers found a planet about 8.1 times the mass of Jupiter orbiting the star 70 Virginis, and a planet about 3.5 times the mass of Jupiter orbiting the star 47 Ursa Majoris. Since then, astronomers have found planets and disks of dust in the process of forming planets around many other stars. Most astronomers think it likely that solar systems of some sort are numerous throughout the universe.

Forever young at 50

Old woman Kenya

f you believe you are only as young as you feel, maybe you should be living in Kenya. A government minister has proposed changing the legal definition of youth to anyone aged from 15 to 50 – a two-decade jump from the current ceiling of 30 years. If passed by Parliament, that would put youths within five years of Kenya’s official retirement age of 55. Youth Affairs Minister Muhammad Kuti was quoted in local media as saying the Government plans to change the law so more people can access a 1 billion shilling ($18.87 million)) youth fund established this year. The proposal has rankled some in the east African nation, where critics say the reform agenda of President Mwai Kibaki, 74, has stalled because he has filled his cabinet with members of his own age group, or “wazee” in Swahili. “That is utter nonsense,” auditor Catherine Kagweria said. “We need younger, more spry leaders to take over from these geriatrics.” Kuti could not be reached for comment. Kenya is one of the nine African countries hit hardest by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and according to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS 2002), HIV prevalence among Kenyan 15M9-year-olds has reached 15 percent. Sexual activity is the major mode of HIV transmission in Kenya and accounts for approximately 80 percent of infections (Mulindi et al. 1998). Researchers have found that in addition to high levels of sexual activity, transitory sexual relationships, and insufficient rates of condom use, young Kenyans harbor misinformation about HIV / AIDS transmission, further increasing their risk of infection.
